Sophia Ivanna Hodych
Sophia Hodych is a Ukrainian-Australian actor, director, and published writer aiming to pursue a career in film and the performing arts. Her joy for theatre originated in her hometown of Lviv, where literature and performance are the main sources of entertainment.
Since relocating to Melbourne in 2015 she has undertaken a number of short acting courses including at NIDA and VCA before attending the Theatre Arts stream in the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School. She is currently in her 3rd year of BFA Acting at QUT.
Sophia is passionate about the topics of love, war, politics, and philosophy commenting on the imperfect sides of humanity. She is exploring the subtle combination of naturalism and fantasy by writing in the genre of magical realism. Her writing credits include multiple poetry printings as well as a short story published in a digital magazine P.S I Love You. Throughout the Melbourne lockdown in 2020 she has worked on adapting the novel Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks into a theatre piece, while also playing the protagonist role of Anna Frith.
Sophia’s recent credits include performing in plays The Only Kind of Soulmate and The Moments that Make Us at the annual Freshblood Festival in Brisbane. She also has experience working on a professional film set at Neighbours and in multiple fully-equipped theatres such as the MTC and Gasworks Arts Park.
