1st to the 15th of January - Developing
During this fortnight we called in some extra minds to help our writers see our writing from a more objective view point.
We spent 5 hours reading and discussing 9 scenes. A lot of the material is coming along wonderfully and it’s just a matter of coming up with creative and accurate staging. Some scenes require more drafting to get the correct messaging across in an emotionally impactful way. But at this point being able to say that, collectively, we have 72 pages of writing definitely puts our minds at ease.
We will also take this opportunity to introduce you to Ben Lynskey - our technical director. Ben is the Artistic Director of Brisbane Immersive and will help us with co-ordinating all things technical. He has also helped our writing team my understanding the possibilities and limitations of immersive theatre and we are super excited to explore this fascinating form of performance.
Our next step will be developing scripts further, refining the language and style as well as investing more in the battle sequence of the play.
This weeks questions are:
How do Ukrainians speak and how can we translate it into English? Should the actors do accents or will we simplify the language?
Which characters can we connect through time and space?
Where are teh elements of film necessary and how are we going to film them?
What else do we need our audience to know & understand about Ukraine? Is the main message clear?
